Actually, the "Glow" setting replaces the first stage tube's plate resistors with a Constant Current Source using MOSFETS. Triode tubes vary their plate current with plate voltage. Pentode tubes vary their plate current much less with plate voltage changes and hence sound different. By introducing a Constant Current Source to the plate circuit, a different sound character reminiscent of pentode tubes can be obtained. "Clean" is a more honest triode-like sound and these 2 choices offer more recording flexibility. Def not a gimmick. LEDs under the tubes are a gimmick. Who does that? -Larry
